Welcome to Lockwood South Primary School

Lockwood SOUTH Primary School is a small rural school situated on the Calder Alternate Highway approximately 12 kilometres from Kangaroo Flat. Currently there are two homegroups: Hakeas; Grades Prep-2 and Melaleucas; Grades 3-6. Head to our Enrolment page for a virtual tour and flyover.

Lockwood South Primary School is set in attractive natural surroundings, including a picturesque creek area that enhances our calm and engaging learning environment. Our school features excellent modern facilities, with open, bright, and welcoming learning spaces connected by a large undercover area and pathways. This shared outdoor space ensures students have access to play and activity areas in all weather conditions. A separate Agriculture Centre further enriches our environment, incorporating a kitchen, vegetable garden, orchard, composting systems, and a chicken enclosure to support hands-on learning.

At Lockwood South Primary School, we deliver a comprehensive and engaging program aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, with a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy as the foundation of student learning.

Students access a broad range of specialist programs, including Visual Arts, Music (featuring an annual Performing Arts production), Physical Education, and the MARC Library Van service. Our Mandarin program is delivered in partnership with Bendigo Senior Secondary College’s Confucius Classroom. Students also participate in interschool sport through the Loddon Calder District School Sports Association and Sporting Schools initiatives. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is embedded across all areas of the curriculum, with students regularly using netbooks and interactive displays to support their learning.

Student wellbeing and engagement are central to our approach. Programs include wellbeing sessions led by our School Chaplain, cooking and science in the Agriculture Centre, and Hands On Learning opportunities such as gardening, cooking, woodwork, and creative projects. Students are also actively involved in environmental initiatives through our partnership with Upper Spring Creek Landcare.

In Grade 6, students take on leadership roles as part of the Grade 6 Leadership Team, where they organise events, develop leadership skills, and lead school assemblies. We also support our community through a breakfast program, offered three days per week in partnership with Foodbank.

Our school provides a rich incursion, excursion, and camps program to extend learning beyond the classroom and support student growth and independence. We also work closely with regional support services, including speech therapists, psychologists, and social workers, to ensure all students receive the support they need.

Lockwood South Primary School offers an Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) program for families, operating Monday to Friday:

  • Morning session: 7:45am – 8:45am
  • Afternoon session: 3:30pm – 5:30pm
