Sustainability

Lockwood SOUTH Primary School highly values sustainability and we are part of the Victorian ResourceSmart Schools.

Our school grounds are picturesque. They including native gums and a 'dry' creek bed that flows during the winter months, a variety of native birds and sugar gliders make their home here.

We have a kitchen garden which the children tend and then cook using this produce for our famous Friday Feasts. With the help our volunteer gardener children learn about the change in the garden through the seasons, the life cycle of plants and how to the manage a compost.

We have a partnership with our local Landcare group Upper Spring Creek who meet at our school each month. We have worked productively on projects with them over the past years including; saving the Curlew, erosion project, environmental studies, and woodland birds.

Through ResourceSmart we have embedded sustainability in everything they do. We attempt to take action in minimising waste, saving energy and water, promoting biodiversity and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

All these programs help us to reduce costs while giving students the opportunity to learn about sustainability in a tangible and realistic environment.
